808 Create designed and delivered the lighting for Playback Live in collaboration with Sony Music Vision. It was the first of their immersive gigs at London’s iconic Roundhouse, showcasing a new remastered version of the iconic Queen Budapest concert of 1986.
Drawing on the original performance, we connected the lighting on screen with the architecture of the Roundhouse, bringing the audience into the atmosphere of the gig.
The design recreated the classic lighting pods of the 1980s, using LED PARs with frost diffusion to emulate the distinctive look of traditional PAR cans. The pods were mounted on upright freestanding truss towers.
Beyond the concert, we list displays of Freddie Mercury’s costumes and drums, giving each piece a distinct presence within the venue.
Lighting design, equipment and crew by 808 Create. The brilliant Drew Bristow led the project management and lighting programming translating the design into the epic live experience.
