For more than a decade, 808 Create has supported BBC Studios at Glastonbury, delivering the presentation studio alongside Lighting Designer Oli Richards. With Gaffer Paul Evans, Sungun Operator Steve Taft and Programmer Drew Bristow, our team has helped create a broadcast environment that performs consistently across one of the world’s most iconic festivals and has even won a BAFTA.
Glastonbury presents a unique lighting challenge. The presentation studio needs to look relaxed and natural on screen while performing across constantly changing conditions, from bright afternoon sunshine through to the final live broadcasts after dark. The design also needs the flexibility to adapt to different presenters, artists and live content throughout the weekend.
Our role encompasses project management, technical consultancy and installation, advising on low power LED fixtures that maximise output while reducing energy consumption. By specifying efficient equipment, keeping the technical footprint compact and using local crew wherever possible, sustainability is considered at every stage of the project without compromising the quality of the broadcast.
The result is a lighting system that punches through the harsh midday sun, transitions naturally into the evening and performs consistently throughout every live broadcast.
